A hands-on role helping children and youth in your community
Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services (YFPS) is mandated to provide inpatient and outpatient Court-ordered and Court-related assessment and treatment services to young persons pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act as well as other relevant federal and provincial statutes. YFPS also provides services to young persons found unfit to stand trial and those youth found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder (NCRMD), pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Services are provided through outpatient clinics and contracted service providers located throughout the province.
Assessment and treatment services may include specialized treatment services for youth who may have committed violent or sexual offences; have offended and are experiencing mental health, behavioural, drug and/or alcohol addictions problems; and who are in custody facilities in need of mental health services.
This position works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing direct care to adolescents with a broad range of mental health and behavioural problems. This is your opportunity to work with families facing difficult challenges and help make a difference.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Diploma or higher in Psychiatric Nursing; OR an Advanced Diploma or higher in Psychiatric Nursing; OR a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nursing with extensive experience in Community Psychiatric Nursing with youth and involuntary clients.

Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered. NOTE: Registered or eligible for immediate registration with the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP), formerly known as College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of BC (CRPNBC) or the College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC), a baccalaureate degree from a recognized university in a field relevant to the position OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years experience in psychiatric nursing.
- Will be required to work evenings and weekends.
