We were approved as an emerging special interest group of the Canadian Nurses Association in July 2007. CFNA is an organization for nurses who work to prevent violence and/or reduce its consequences (e.g. nurses working with victims of violence, trauma, crime and disaster; forensic psychiatric or correctional populations, or death investigation).

Our focus is Canadian Forensic Nurses and their scope of practice in many different areas. We welcome nurses from other backgrounds and countries, student nurses, and professionals, such as: paramedics, physicians, police, social workers and legal professionals as associate members.
The Professional Development Assistance Program (PDAP) was established to help provide assistance with accessing continuing education and support global networking and information exchange for the forensic nurse.
